A No-Nonsense Guide to Our Infrared Halogen Lamps
We build these lamps for when you need a serious amount of heat, and you need it fast. Inside each quartz tube, there’s a tungsten filament bathed in a halogen gas mix. Why the gas? It keeps the filament from burning out too quickly. That means we can crank the heat way up, pushing the energy into that shortwave IR spectrum where the real work happens. Talking Power and Voltage When you’re picking a lamp, you’re basically balancing voltage and wattage to get the right amount of heat hitting your target. Here’s a tip: if you move to a 400V system, you can pack more wattage into a shorter tube without blowing your current limit. You get way more BTUs per square inch. We can make these in a bunch of different lengths to fit whatever machine you’re already running. But a word of warning. High-wattage tubes getinsanely hot. If your cooling fans aren’t pulling their weight, you’re going to melt your housing or fry your connectors. Keep an eye on your airflow. The Build: Quartz and Plugs We use high-purity quartz because it lets the IR light through without blocking it. Depending on what you’re heating, we can add a coating to the glass. Some reflect the heat back toward your part, and others filter out specific wavelengths. For the electrical side, we usually stick with R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re standard for a reason—they just fit. Just do me a favor:**keep the contacts clean.**If they get oxidized, you’ll get arcing, and your lamp will die way sooner than it should. Putting Them to Work If you’re doing PET blowing or curing plastics, these things are your best friend. They hit full temperature almost the second you flip the switch. No waiting around for a resistive element to warm up. Pair them with a PID controller, and you can keep your temperature swings incredibly tight. The only real downside? They’re fragile. Quartz handles heat like a champ, but it hates being hit. One stray piece of debris or a mechanical bump and it’s game over. Give them a shield and keep them safe from impacts, and they’ll treat you right.
