
Getting the Heat Right: Better IR Lamps for Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the drill. You’re fighting that thermal gradient. When the heat just sits on the surface of the preform, you end up with thin walls and bottles that burst. It’s frustrating, and it kills your yield. We built our replacement lamps for Chumpower and Husky HyPET systems to stop that from happening. The secret is shifting the infrared spectrum so the heat actually gets inside the plastic. Why “penetration” actually matters Here’s the thing: standard lamps usually hit wavelengths that the PET polymer either reflects or sucks up right at the surface. It’s like trying to warm a house by heating the front door. We spec our filaments differently. By pushing more medium-to-long wave radiation, the energy skips past the outer skin and hits the core. You get a temperature that’s consistent all the way through the wall. No more guessing. The hardware side of things These are simple drop-in replacements. No fuss. We use heavy-wall quartz glass because high-wattage cycles are brutal. Cheap glass bows under the stress; ours doesn’t. And whether you’re using R7s or Sk15 connectors, we’ve reinforced the contact points. You won’t have to worry about arcing when you crank up the voltage. One heads-up, though. We push the wattage density high to keep up with those fast HyPET cycle times. That means your oven’s cooling fans have to work harder. If your airflow is clogged with dust, you’re going to burn these lamps out way too fast. Keep them clean. What happens in the real world Once you wire these in, you’ll notice the warm-up time is shorter. Because the coating is more efficient, you don’t have to blast the oven to get the results you need. That’s the real win. You can run the machine faster without scorching the plastic. Plus, keeping the ambient oven temp lower means your conveyor belts and seals aren’t getting baked. They’ll last longer, and you’ll spend less time replacing parts.
