If you’re running an older Nissei ASB 70DP, you probably know the feeling. You want to push the machine faster, but it just won’t budge. Usually, the bottleneck isn’t the machine itself—it’s the oven. It’s just not hitting the numbers you need for modern cycle times. The good news? You don’t need to buy a brand-new machine. Sometimes, just swapping out those tired old lamps for precision infrared elements can bring your throughput right back to where it needs to be. The nitty-gritty on power Here’s the thing: PET preforms are picky. They need to hit that glass transition temperature perfectly and uniformly, or you’re in trouble. When we look at replacement lamps, we’re obsessed with watt-density per millimeter. If you go with a higher wattage, you get more heat flux. That means you can either shorten your heating zone or crank up the conveyor speed. But be careful. You have to match the original voltage exactly, or you’ll fry your controllers. And if you’re jumping to a higher wattage than what the factory originally spec’d, check your wiring and power supply first. You don’t want your electrical cabinets overheating because the current draw is too high. Quartz and the “Perfect Fit” We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the thermal shock of rapid cycling without cracking. We also use halogen gas fills to keep the filaments from burning out too early. As for the fit? It has to be spot on. Most of these use an R7s or a similar slide-in connector. It needs to be tight. If there’s even a tiny gap between the lamp and the socket, you get electrical resistance. That leads to arcing, and before you know it, you’ve got a melted socket on your hands. What this actually does for your shop When you upgrade these lamps, those annoying “cold spots” in the preform start to disappear. That means way fewer rejects and much more consistent wall thickness. One quick tip: more heat means your oven has to breathe. Check your cooling fans. If they’re clogged with dust, all that extra heat will stay trapped, warping your reflectors and killing your brand-new lamps way faster than they should go. Keep them clean, and the machine will keep humming.
