
Making Horse Solariums Actually Last
If you’ve ever dealt with equine solariums, you know the drill. You need that short-wave infrared heat to get deep into the muscles and dry out a coat quickly, but you don’t want to scorch the horse. The problem is that most lamps are a pain. They burn out, they crack, and they cost a fortune to keep replacing—which is a nightmare when you’re already trying to keep your margins tight.
Why most lamps just quit
Here is the thing: most solariums fail for two reasons. Either the quartz glass gives up or the filament snaps because of a voltage spike. It’s frustrating. We decided to fix that by using high-purity quartz. It keeps the heat consistent. We also tweaked the way the filament is shaped. The result? You get the exact same heat output, but the hardware isn’t taking such a beating. It just lasts longer. Simple as that.
The nitty-gritty on the gear
We use halogen-filled quartz tubes. Now, that sounds technical, but all it really means is that the evaporated tungsten gets put back onto the filament. This lets us run the lamps hotter and more efficiently without the wire thinning out and snapping. And because we know you probably already have a setup, we made these easy. We offer R7s and Sk15 connectors, so they just slide right into your existing frames. No fuss. Plus, it cuts down on those annoying arc-burns at the socket that happen when you have a poor connection.
A quick heads-up on the setup
One thing to keep in mind: these lamps put out a lot of heat. A lot. Since they’re so powerful, you’ve got to make sure your ventilation is up to the task. Also, check your wiring. If your wires are too thin for the current, you’ll see voltage drops and your control relays will fry way sooner than they should. At the end of the day, if you want to stop spending your weekends replacing bulbs, you just need a lamp that can handle the heat cycle without cracking.
